Success Stories
As a community partner, you agree to support foster children and families in our community by partnering with Gateways for Youth and Families on a minimum of two activities/projects each year.

For example:
  • One community partner does an on-going toiletry drive to ensure that kids and teens that come into care can have a new toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, comb, brush and all of those toiletries the day they are placed into care.
  • One partner sponsored 45 children for the holidays this year. A different partner sponsored 350 children for the holidays two years running.
  • Two partners have provided us with school supplies for over 30 children for the past two years.  One of those same partners also donated funds to provide memberships for 3 children in afterschool enrichment programs.
  • A community partner has been a drop off site for a community coat and PJ drive for foster children and also hosted a 1 day community awareness day during the drive.
  • Almost all of our partners help us to advertise projects and events we are having within the community, and many partners take up donations among employees or members to sponsor children or events.

Our Community Partners have been fortunate to become a part of the lifestories of so many wonderful people. Here are some of those stories: please note that names and identifying details have been changed in accordance with the privacy rights of children and families in out-of-home placements

"When three new foster children were placed with us just as school was starting, they arrived with nothing more than the clothes on their back.  This isn't unusual, but I had no idea how I was going to be able to provide the things they needed in time to start school.  I was worried that they would feel even more lost and alone.  I am so grateful for the help of N1K Community Partners who came through with clothes and a backpack for each child, filled with everything that they could possibly have needed to start off on the right foot."

The Miller Family

"We are so grateful for the help of N1K Community Partners.  We were more than willing to take in my cousin's kids, but when my husband lost his job at Christmas time, we were worried we weren't going to make the rent. We definitely didn't think we could afford to buy the kids any presents this year.  How surprised we were to be able to give them such a great holiday.  The older children appreciated meeting their sponsors at the party and the little ones enjoyed their time with Santa.  It really made a difference to all of us and helped us get through this tough time together, as a family."
